Good Samaritan

One day Jesus was telling a story about a man who was walking from Jerusalem to Jericho. Suddenly, robbers jumped out from behind some rocks and attacked the man. They beat him and tore off his clothes. They left the poor man lying still by the side of the road, bleeding.

A priest from the Temple came walking by and saw the man. He crossed over to the other side of the road and walked past, leaving the wounded man to die.

A little while later a Levite came down the road. Levites were people who worked in the Temple. When the Levite saw the injured man, he too crossed over to the other side of the road and walked past, without stopping to help.

Then a Samaritan came down the road with his donkey. Samaritans were hated by the Jews but, when he saw the man lying on the side of the road, he went to help. He poured oil on the man's wounds and bandaged them. Then, he helped the injured man onto the donkey and took him to an inn. When the Samaritan had to leave, he paid the innkeeper to look after the man until he was better. The Bible tells us to love God with all our heart and soul and strength and also to love everyone as much as we love ourselves. The Samaritan helped the stranger and this pleased God.
